FIFA's ongoing investigation into the Spanish transfer market has claimed another two high-profile victims. Neither Real Madrid nor their cross-city rivals Atlético will be permitted to register new players in the next two transfer windows, summer 2016 and winter 2017.
Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid hit with transfer bans
Like Barcelona before them, both Madrid clubs have been banned from signing new players for the next two transfer windows.

The two clubs were found to have violated several provisions concerning the international transfer and first registration of minor players as well as other relevant provisions with regard to the registration and participation of certain players in competitions.
Both clubs have also been fined and reprimanded.
Presumably both clubs will look into an appeal, and it’s worth noting that they can still sign players in the two weeks that remain of this transfer window. We should also note that Barcelona weren’t too inconvenienced by their ban: Arda Turan and Aleix Vidal were perfectly happy to spend half a season on the sidelines, waiting for their transfers to go through. Still, it’s a going to be a strange old world when Real Madrid can’t buy anybody.
UPDATE: Real Madrid have officially appealed their transfer ban. Atletico Madrid are expected to as well. Barcelona had appealed their ban, but the ruling was ultimately upheld.
