Chile vs. Uruguay 2016: Start time, live stream, TV schedule, and 3 things to know

Having so far stuttered through a worryingly inconsistent World Cup qualifying campaign, Chile will look to get back to their winning ways at home versus high-flying Uruguay in Tuesday’s clash in Santiago. Chile head into the match on the back of a goalless draw to Colombia, and currently occupy the fifth place playoff spot. Qualification remains far from assured for the reigning Copa América champions.

For their part, Uruguay have enjoyed a surprisingly smooth qualifying campaign to date. Óscar Tabárez’s side struggled through the last few years, though seven wins from their first 11 games have seen them within a point of table-topping Brazil. Though it remains too early for them to take their foot off the pedal, there’s little doubt that they’re in an excellent position at this stage.

Three big things to know

1. Chile have won just five of their first 11 qualifying matches, though only one of their four defeats so far has come on home soil. They’ll in part be relying on home-field advantage in Santiago to ensure they escape from this tough test with at least a point.

2. Uruguay have lost only one qualifier since last November, having gone down to Argentina in Buenos Aires back in September. Both of their defeats in the group so far have come away from home, and indeed, having won all six of their matches in front of their own supporters, they’ve picked up a victory just once on the road.

3. However, Uruguay do boast South American qualifying’s top goalscorer in Edinson Cavani. The Paris Saint-Germain man has netted seven times so far, and will surely be looking to add to his tally away in Santiago.
