Brazil couldn’t be happier with how their World Cup qualifying campaign is going. They’re sitting on top of the table in CONMEBOL, in great shape to make it to Russia after an impressive 3-0 win over Argentina on Thursday. But they face a tough test on Tuesday, as they go away to Peru.
Peru vs. Brazil 2016 live stream: Start time, TV schedule, and 3 things to know
With a win at home, Peru can completely shake up CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying.

As of a month ago, it looked like Peru’s hopes of qualifying for the World Cup had evaporated. But thanks to Bolivia fielding an ineligible player, their loss in La Paz was flipped to a 3-0 win. Then, last week, they pulled off a stunning 4-1 comeback win away to Paraguay. Now Peru is just three points out of a qualifying spot on even goal differential.
If Peru can pull off a victory on Tuesday, South American qualifying is likely to get wild down the stretch. The gap between first and eighth could get as small as seven points by the end of round 12. The top four teams qualify for the World Cup, while fifth place has to play their way into the finals through an intercontinental playoff.

Three big things to know
- Can Coutinho keep up his great form in a tough environment? Philippe Coutinho has evolved into one of the Premier League’s best players this season, and he carried that form over to national team duty with a superb performance against Argentina. Brazil’s putting him into a key role, but things will get tougher for him on the road, against a very physical team..
- Brazil might be OK with a draw. With 24 points on the board and an emphatic victory over Argentina behind them, there’s not a lot of reason for Brazil to take risks going forward in this game. A point is a decent result for them, and will ensure they stay clear of the teams placed third and below heading into 2017.
- Peru’s home record is pretty unimpressive. While Peru grabbed that big win away to Paraguay and turned in an impressive performance in a close loss on the road to Chile, they haven’t been great in their home country. They lost comfortably to Uruguay, fell to Colombia in a tight match, and could only draw against Ecuador. They’re still very much in contention to make the World Cup, but their home form needs to improve.
