AC Milan have defied the odds to enjoy a thoroughly successful start to the new season, winning eight of their first 12 league fixtures. Under the tutelage of talented coach Vincenzo Montella they've become a force to be reckoned with, and there's finally some hope that they'll be able to emerge from the shadows of mid-table mediocrity. They'll look to maintain their momentum with a victory over their Milan rivals Inter on Sunday, and they certainly head in as favorites for the victory.

AC Milan will look to maintain their good form when they clash with rivals Inter on Sunday.

That's because Inter are in total disarray, having recently sacked coach Frank de Boer just months after his hiring and replaced him with former Lazio boss Stefano Pioli. The Nerazzurri find themselves down in 10th, already eight points adrift of third-place AC Milan. They'll hope that the 3-0 win they recorded over Serie A's basement side Crotone last weekend will provide some much-needed confidence, but there's currently little reason for optimism in Milan's blue corner.

Three big things to know
1. Milan cruised to a comfortable 3-0 win when these sides last met in Serie A. However, both sides were then under different coaches: Milan under Siniša Mihajlović, and Inter Roberto Mancini. it doesn’t take long for things to change dramatically in Serie A.
2. AC Milan will be without Andrea Bertolacci, Davide Calabria and captain Riccardo Montolivo, while Alessio Romagnoli is a doubt after he picked up a muscular problem on international duty. Inter will be without Andrea Ranocchia, who is suspended, while Cristian Ansaldi and Rodrigo Palacio face late fitness tests.
3. This will be Stefano Pioli’s first match in charge of Inter, with his hiring having been confirmed over the international break. It will certainly be a baptism of fire for one of Italian football’s most familiar faces.
