The finalists in the 2015 Liga MX Apertura face off in the quarterfinals of the 2016 Apertura, with lower-seeded Pumas UNAM hosting higher-seeded UANL Tigres in the first leg of their tie on Wednesday.
Pumas vs. Tigres 2016: Start time, live stream, and TV schedule for Liga MX playoffs
It’s a rematch of the final from two seasons ago.

Last season was a rough one for both teams. Pumas didn’t make the playoffs in the 2016 Clausura, while Tigres barely snuck into Liguilla in eighth place before losing to top-seeded local rivals Monterrey. This season, Tigres made Liguilla comfortably with a third-place finish, while Pumas grabbed sixth with a win on the final day of the regular season.
In their meeting this season, Tigres won 3-1 away after Pumas’ Marcelo Alatorre was shown a red card in the 21st minute. And even though Pumas is the home team, they might have trouble scoring — Tigres finished the regular season with the joint-best defensive record, and they kept four clean sheets on the road.
