Barcelona have provisionally fallen seven points adrift of La Liga leaders Real Madrid, with the latter having seen off struggling Sporting Gijón on Saturday. Barça will look to reduce that deficit with a victory of their own on Sunday, when they travel to face high-flying Real Sociedad in San Sebastián.

It’s a game that could prove trickier than anticipated, with the Basque outfit heading into this match on the back of four straight wins. They’ve been going very well so far this season, and would move to within a point of the Catalan giants if they can pull off an unlikely victory. There’s never a good time to play Barça, but now’s as good as ever for La Real.

Three big things to know

1. Barcelona have been better away from home than in front of their own supporters so far this season. They’ve won all but one of their league matches away from Camp Nou, though La Real have been beaten just once when they’ve been on home soil.

2. Real Sociedad will be without the injured trio of Rubén Pardo, Markel Bergara and Jon Gaztañaga. Barcelona, meanwhile, have Andrés Iniesta and Samuel Umtiti on the sidelines, though Gerard Piqué has returned to full fitness and is expected to start in the center of defense.

3. Real Sociedad have surprisingly tended to enjoy playing Barcelona in recent years, having won four of their last nine encounters with the Catalans. Barça have mustered the same number of victories, with the single draw coming in the Copa del Rey in 2014.
