Bayern Munich will hope to extend their lead at the top of the Bundesliga table when they play host to high-flying Hoffenheim on Saturday. Carlo Ancelotti's side are still unbeaten in domestic competition this season, though their lead at the top of the table is just two points over RB Leipzig. They're not yet at their free-flowing best, and will have to be on guard when they go up against one of Germany's chief overperformers.

Hoffenheim started the season with four straight draws, though have bounced back with five straight wins. They’re the division’s in-form team, and find themselves only four points adrift of Bayern in the table. It’s an unfamiliar position for a team more accustomed to struggles at the wrong end of the table, but they now seem to be finally reaping the rewards of software billionaire Dietmar Hopp’s investment.

Three big things to know

1. Bayern will certainly be without Franck Ribéry and Javi Martínez, though will be hoping to have Thiago Alcântara back from a knock in time for kickoff. The Spanish international has established himself as one of Europe’s top midfielders at Bayern, and they’d certainly miss him if he was ruled out.

2. Bayern head into this match having never before been beaten by Hoffenheim. Since their historic promotion to the Bundesliga in 2008, Hoffenheim have faced their Bavarian opponents 16 times; they’ve lost on 12 occasions, and have mustered draws in the other four.

3. Bayern's star striker Robert Lewandowski has scored four goals in his last two matches, having netted braces against both Augsburg and PSV Eindhoven in the Bundesliga and Champions League respectively. Hoffenheim defenders, beware!
