Crystal Palace’s improved performances against very tough opponents did not buy Alan Pardew any more time. Despite their decent showings in losses to Manchester United and Chelsea, they were still losses, bringing Palace to within one point of the drop zone. On Thursday, Pardew was fired by the club.

Recently, Pardew had been haunted by the ghost of Sam Allardyce at Selhurst Park. Allardyce is the favorite to take over, and has a meeting scheduled with Palace’s chairman.
