The Madrid Derby is always a fun game to watch, but this time the stakes are quite a bit higher than normal. With Barcelona starting to pull away from the pack in La Liga, it’s vital for both of these teams to start piling on as many points as they can, especially with just one separating them in the table right now. In fact, whoever wins this match will find themselves all alone in second place in the table, and still within striking distance of Barcelona.

Atletico’s overall form has fallen off a bit of late while Real Madrid have mostly impressed since Zinedine ZIdane took over as manager, but he’s never faced a manager quite like Diego Simeone in his young career. This will be an incredible test for Zidane’s managerial ability, and with these two sides looking so evenly matched right now, the stakes will only serve to make the match all the more entertaining, especially for any neutral fans watching.

Key Real Madrid player -- Cristiano Ronaldo

Who else could it be? Ronaldo is supposed to be at his best in big games, and this certainly qualifies. Especially with Atlético’s defense in fine form of late, Real will be leaning on his ability to create goals out of nothing. The more we see the Ronaldo of old, the more likely it is that Real come away with a huge win in this vital match.

Key Atlético Madrid player -- Antoine Griezmann

As Real have Ronaldo, so too do Atlético have their own player who has become almost totemic in his importance. Griezmann’s ability to buzz around all over the final third and wreak bloody chaos on an opposing defense is almost awe-inspiring at times, and with Real’s defense a bit threadbare thank to injury, this could be his chance to shine
