Manchester City vs. Dynamo Kiev 2016: Time, TV schedule and news for Champions League

Manchester City should cruise past Dynamo Kiev in Tuesday’s Champions League encounter.

Manchester City shouldn’t have any problem progressing into the Champions League quarterfinals when they take on Dynamo Kiev in the second leg of their round of 16 encounter at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday. Manuel Pellegrini’s side were not perfect in the first leg, but three away goals in a 3-1 win will give them confidence of cruising into the next stage. If they avoid an upset, they would reach the quarterfinals of the Champions League for the first time since they made their tournament debut back in 2011.

Dynamo Kiev certainly weren’t bad in the first leg, and indeed dominated throughout the early part of the second half. However, they were eventually punished for their attack-minded approach, with Yaya Touré‘s last-gasp third likely ending their hopes of getting back into the tie away at the Etihad. If they did manage to come from a couple behind to win (remember: they need to score at least thrice to stand any chance of avoiding elimination) it would represent one of the tournament’s all-time great achievements.

Key player: Andriy Yarmolenko (Dynamo Kiev)

If Kiev are to have any success at all, they’ll be relying on a big performance from winger Andriy Yarmolenko. The Ukraine international has long been linked with a move to one of Europe’s biggest clubs, and though it now looks like that ship may have sailed, there’s no denying he’s still a very dangerous player for opposition defences. He loves to dart inside off the flank, and could capitalise on any pockets of space vacated by City’s notoriously shaky back line.

Recent history

Dynamo Kiev have only visited the Etihad once before, and lost 1-0 in their Europa League round of 16 encounter back in 2011. However, they did still manage to win the tie, with the 2-0 win a week earlier proving sufficient to see them through on aggregate. Kiev had visited Manchester twice before to play United, though rather unsurprisingly lost on both occasions.

Manchester City injuries and suspensions

Out: Eliaquim Mangala (hamstring). In doubt: None.

Dynamo Kiev injuries and suspensions

Out: None. In doubt: Mykola Morozyuk, Oleksandr Rybka (knee).

Manchester City's only current injury is that to defender Mangala, who is still sidelined with a hamstring problem. Dynamo have no confirmed absentees, but will likely miss goalkeeper Rybka and midfielder Morozyuk: they've both not played since the turn of the year.
