Major League Soccer is finally back, with the 2016 season beginning on Sunday and all 20 teams in action. There’s a lot of fantastic action on tap, including a rematch of the MLS Cup Final between the defending champions Portland Timbers and the team they beat to lift the cup, the Columbus Crew.

That’s just a taste of the day’s action, though. The Supporters’ Shield winning New York Red Bulls start the day off against Toronto FC, the Los Angeles Galaxy finish off the day hosting D.C. United, and a number of other great matches in between. You’ll definitely want to make good use of Fox’s Multimatch 90 service during the 3 p.m. ET kickoff window, with three matches all starting at once, with other matches running over one another for much of the day. And of course, every match will be streamed live on the MLS Live subscription service.

The defending champions get a stern test right out of the gates, with a duel with the team they beat in the final on the cards. Portland feel good about the changes that Caleb Porter and company made over the winter, rebuilding the left side of their formation while mostly standing pat elsewhere -- though they did add a couple of ex-Crew rotation regulars in Jack McInerney and Chris Klute.

The first match of the day is also one of the most intriguing, with the defending Supporters’ Shield champs opening their campaign at home against one of last season’s bigger surprises in Toronto FC. NYRB’s high-octane attack could find a lot of success against a rebuilt Toronto defense, but it’s not like Toronto are without a long list of weapons themselves. With Will Johnson now in the side to work with Michael Bradley and Sebastian Giovinco, Toronto could easily find a way to get a win out of what should be a very exciting match

The rebuilt Seattle Sounders are getting a stiff test in their first match of the season, with a dangerous opponent coming into town in the form of Sporting KC. An already-talented SKC side got even better this winter and represent a huge challenge for a Seattle side that’s reeling from a beating at the hands of Club America in the CCL and who have had to rebuild and readjust their side more than they’d anticipated in the wake of the sudden departure of elite goalscorer Obafemi Martins. Can they make the adjustments they need in time to take on a strong side like Sporting? We’ll find out Sunday night.
