Real Madrid vs. Getafe 2016 live stream: Time, TV schedule and how to watch online

Real Madrid and Getafe both have a lot to play for, adding a lot of fuel to the fire of a local rivalry.

We often make much of local derbies like the North-West derby or North London derby in England, the Derby della Madonnina in Italy, and even the Madrid derby between Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid. Some of the lower-key derbies often go overlooked, but can still be just as exciting. Take Real Madrid and Getafe for example -- the biggest team in Madrid and one of the smallest teams in the city’s metropolitan area, but still they’ve put on some entertaining matches over the years.

Their rivalry isn’t as bitterly charged as Madrid’s involvement with Atleti, or with Barcelona in El Clasico, but when you take any kind of local rivalry and add the kind of import this match carries on both teams’ table standings -- more on that below -- and you get the potential for a highly-charged, very fun match. No matter the outcome, you’ll almost certainly be in for enough eye-opening moments to make watching this match very, very well worth your time.

What’s at stake

Real Madrid’s continued surge in form has brought them ever closer to the title race, and with Barcelona sliding of late, they could be right in the thick of it after this weekend. Another win for Los Merengues would see them on 75 points, just one behind Barcelona’s 76. Another loss for Barcelona -- not impossible given their tailspinning form -- and Madrid would suddenly have a very, very real chance at snagging the La Liga title for themselves.

Getafe are fighting too, but at the opposite end of the table. They’re currently in last place in the league, but a win could see them back into safety, albeit temporarily. Of course, that’s easier said than done -- Getafe is in last place because they’ve gone 12 games without a win, and there’s no real reason to think that streak will end against a team as hot as Madrid is right now. A loss in this match plus an unfavorable result or two elsewhere would be disastrous for Getafe, leaving them still at the bottom of the table and needing a lot more than just one win to get back to safety.
