Sebastian Giovinco wins MLS Player of the Week honors for Week 8

There was no consensus this week, with Toronto’s star forward just barely edging the vote.

Eric Bolte-USA TODAY Sports

Some weeks, SB Nation’s MLS Player of the Week vote is a pretty easy decision for the voters. Other weeks, the group is split, and consensus is nowhere to be found.

For Week 8, the ballots were split, and Toronto FC star Sebastian Giovinco takes Player of the Week honors, beating out LA Galaxy newcomer Emmanuel Boateng for SB Nation’s highest honor ... of the week ... in MLS.

While Boateng had two assists and a goal in his second career MLS start in a rout over previously undefeated Real Salt Lake, Giovinco scored both goals in TFC’s rivalry win on the road against the Montreal Impact. Either way, they were both good performances, and hardly the only for the week -- a total of seven players, including three different New York Red Bulls players, received first-place votes.

Full results for Week 8, with first-place votes getting three points, second-place votes receiving two points and third-place votes earning a point each:
