Atlético Madrid down to 10 men after Fernando Torres picks up a remarkably stupid red card

So, so dumb.

Congratulations to Fernando Torres for putting in one of the most eventful 10-minute spells in recent Champions League memory. He earned himself a yellow card just four minutes after scoring a go-ahead goal, then added this second yellow to get his marching orders in the 35th minute.

Diego Simeone and the entire Atlético Madrid team protested, but there really wasn't a lot to protest about. This is a yellow card challenge, and a completely unnecessary one, on a player that was posing no attacking threat. Really, it's tough to work out what Torres was thinking.

While this is a big help for Barcelona, it's not necessarily crippling for Atléti. They grabbed an away goal, so they'll feel OK about the second leg if they concede twice and lose this match 2-1.
