Czech soccer refs got hammered and peed on the field, which you definitely can’t do

Getting drunk and peeing on the field isn’t a good way to do your job.

It’s a common insult for fans to call a referee drunk after a bad call, or one that’s been missed entirely. A referee actually being drunk during a game he’s supposed to be officiating is an entirely different issue, but that’s exactly what happened in a match in the Czech Synot liga, the top division in Czech football.

That is Marek Pilny, who was serving as the fourth official for a match between Příbram and Slavia Praha on Wednesday. He and fellow official Jiri Jech, who was serving as an additional assistant on the day, both showed up appearing drunk to the stadium. Pilny, as you can see, was staggering on the touchline and had to be forced out of action by security just 10 minutes into the match. He would leave the game during halftime.

Jech was apparently in even worse shape, and even allegedly peed on the field during the game.

Both men have had their refereeing licences revoked by the Czech FA, and will face further disciplinary action. A representative of the FA even went so far as to say that the pair “don’t exist for us any more.” The head referee of the crew and the two linesmen will also be suspended for the remainder of the season for failing to keep Pilny and Jech in line, and for not reporting the issue before it became a public spectacle.
