The United States men’s national team plodded through most of their Copa America warm-up friendly against Ecuador, but in the 90th minute, they came up with an excellent attacking move and a winner. It came from Darlington Nagbe, who finished off his first career USMNT goal.

And it was a beauty.

Nagbe was born in Liberia and just became a U.S. citizen one year ago. The 25-year-old midfielder came to the United States when he was 11 and has starred for the Portland Timbers for his entire pro career, helping them to an MLS Cup title last season.
After a poor first half, Jurgen Klinsmann introduced Nagbe for Kyle Beckerman, and he made all the difference. Not only did he score the winner, but he didn’t misplace a pass either. Fans who have followed his Timbers career have been screaming for him to start for the USMNT for some time, and those cries will only grow louder now.
