The USMNT plays their first Copa America knockout stage match in 20 years on Thursday.
Copa America finally gets really good on Thursday with the start of the quarterfinals. And the first one looks like a pretty evenly contested matchup, between Ecuador and the United States.
Thanks to a surprise win by Costa Rica over Colombia, the USMNT won Group A despite falling to the Colombians in their opening match. Ecuador snuck through Group B undefeated, drawing group winners Peru as well as Brazil, and beating Haiti.
These two teams played each other in a warm-up friendly before the tournament. It was a tale of two halves for the USMNT, who were poor in the first half and lucky not to go down. However, they were excellent in the second half, and won 1-0.
The United States will be without DeAndre Yedlin, who is suspended after being sent off in their last match. Ecuador doesn't have anyone suspended, but Miller Bolaños might miss out with an injury. La Tri also got some good news ahead of the game -- Gabriel Achilier is back from suspension, while Jaime Ayovi is available again after an injury.
