Unfortunately Russia's Euro 2016 campaign has been more notable for violence among their traveling supporters than impressive on-pitch performances, and they head into their final group stage match against Wales knowing that they need a victory to stand any chance of progressing into the group stages. Leonid Slutsky's side salvaged a last-gasp draw against England in their opening fixture, and followed it up with a surprise defeat at the hands of an impressive Slovakia in their second match. It has left them rock bottom of their group, and the heat is on.

Russia head into their final group stage fixture knowing only a win over Wales will give them a chance of making the knockout stages.

Wales know that a draw will likely be enough to see them into the knockout stages. After beating Slovakia in their opening match, they threw away a 1-0 lead to lose 2-1 to England last time out. Chris Coleman’s side will still be reasonably happy with their position two games into their first major tournament in over half a century, though they can’t afford to lose their concentration or rest on their laurels. Playing for the point would be a risky strategy, and could well backfire as it did against England.
All eyes will once again be on the Welsh star Gareth Bale, who has scored two of his side’s three goals so far this tournament, with both coming from free kicks. He’s one of the best players at the tournament, and Russia won’t want to be giving away any dead balls in the vicinity of their goal. If they do, they can expect to be punished.
