Euro 2016 hosts France will be looking to book their place in the quarterfinal with a win over the Republic of Ireland in the first knockout round on Sunday. However, Didier Deschamps' side should know better than to expect a walkover. Their campaign hasn't been plain sailing so far, with Les Bleus having recorded late wins over Romania and Albania before being held to a goalless draw by Switzerland. They've not yet played to their very best, and they'll be hoping to start here.
France vs. Ireland live stream: Game time, TV schedule and how to watch Euro 2016 online
Hosts France certainly shouldn’t expect a walkover against a spirited Republic of Ireland side.
However, the Republic of Ireland head into this match knowing they have nothing to lose. Merely getting out of the group stage is a significant achievement for Martin O'Neill and his men, who scored a dramatic last-gasp winner against Italy in their last match to ensure they squeezed into the knockouts. They lack the quality of the tournament's best, but they've certainly got the workrate and the spirit. They could well give France a very difficult match.
Making things even more tense is the fact that this match is the first time these sides have faced off since 2009, when France's Thierry Henry handballed in the run up to a William Gallas winner in a playoff for qualification to the following World Cup. The Irish are unlikely to have forgotten that particularly bitter experience, and they'll be out for revenge.
