England will have to avoid an upset on Monday if they’re to beat Euro 2016 revelations Iceland and make the quarterfinals. The Scandinavian major tournament debutants have exceeded all expectations so far, having not only made it to France but progressed through the group stages unbeaten. Their outstanding defensive organisation has seen them pick up draws against Portugal and Hungary and a win over Austria, and they’re sure to be stubborn opponents for Roy Hodgson’s side.
England vs. Iceland 2016: Time, TV schedule and live stream for Euro 2016
England can’t get complacent in their encounter with Iceland on Monday.
For their part, England have made a solid but unspectacular start to their Euro 2016 campaign, with an impressive comeback win over Wales sandwiched between underwhelming draws against Russia and Slovakia. There is a feeling that there is still much more to come from the Three Lions, and they’ll have to work hard to beat one of the most industrious teams in the tournament.
The previous meeting between these sides came back in 2004, when Sven-Göran Eriksson’s England cruised to a 6-1 victory at the City of Manchester Stadium. It would be a big surprise if the game was anywhere near as comfortable on Monday.
