England entered the Euros with more hype than they’ve received in the last decade, thanks to an influx of exciting young talent that shined in the Premier League this season. However, Hodgson failed to get the most out of that talent as his team sputtered. Much like Hodgson, Fabio Capello, Steve McClaren and Sven-Goran Eriksson before them, the new England boss will be tasked with placating a despondent fanbase and getting an underachieving group of players to finally make a deep run in a tournament. England has not reached the semifinal of a major tournament held outside their own borders since 1990.
