Regardless of your personal politics, it’s undeniable that most of the larger footballing world sits to the left of the American Republican party. It’s also undeniable that a very large number of people have an extreme dislike for Donald Trump. So, when Sunil Gulati was asked if the presidential election would affect the United States’ chances of hosting a World Cup, he said yes.

“I think the world’s perception of the U.S. is affected by who is in the White House, yes, so it has some bearing, sure,” said Gulati. “I think a co-hosted World Cup with Mexico would be trickier if Secretary Clinton isn’t in the White House.”

Right or wrong, the Presidential election will probably have some affect on the United States’ soccer future.
