Sebastian Giovinco wins MLS Player of the Week for Week 20

Dan Hamilton-USA TODAY Sports

Week 20 was a time of dueling hat tricks in MLS for two superstars.

Sebastian Giovinco and Didier Drogba each scored three goals for his respective side, with Giovinco's Toronto FC beating D.C. United 4-1 and Drogba's Montreal Impact defeating the Philadelphia Union 5-1, and the contest for SB Nation's MLS Player of the Week came down to them. In the end, Giovinco edged Drogba according to the panel of voters, and the Italian takes the award, his second of the season.

Interestingly, the candidates stood well apart to our panel this week. Normally, there are about a dozen players who receive votes. This week? Just six players, with all but one voter selecting both Giovinco and Drogba, and two players only getting one third-place vote apiece.

Full results for Week 20, with first-place votes getting three points, second-place votes receiving two points and third-place votes earning a point each:

Player Points
Sebastian Giovinco 27
Didier Drogba 19
Sacha Kljestan 9
Ignacio Piatti 3
Sam Cronin 1
Dom Dwyer 1
