In the 2016 Olympics men’s soccer tournament, Portugal were perhaps the dominant force of the group stage. They humbled Honduras and Argentina in their first two matches before stepping off the gas a bit to let their squad rest against Algeria. Before that draw, though, they looked utterly unstoppable, dominating their first two matches with great ease.

Germany are in red-hot form, but Portugal have been utterly dominant in the Olympic tournament so far.

“Great ease” won’t describe their matchup against Germany, though. Die Mannschaft went toe-to-toe with two excellent teams at this level in Mexico and South Korea, and held them both to draws. Serge Gnabry has been in jaw-dropping form in Germany’s attack, and he helped lead their 10-0 annihilation of Fiji on Wednesday that guaranteed them a spot in this round. If they can play with even half the attacking freedom they showed in that match in this quarterfinal, Portugal could be in a lot of trouble.
