Everton likely to regret making a huge long-term investment in Yannick Bolasie
The fee is bad. The contract is really bad.

Transfer fees have been rising as revenue has been rising in soccer, but Monday’s big move looks like an all-time wasteful one. Everton announced that they’d signed Yannick Bolasie from Crystal Palace, and they’re paying £25 million for him.
Bolasie finished last season with five goals and three assists. He also only started 23 games, missing some due to injury and some just because he wasn’t picked. He’s also very heavily reliant on his pace, is 27, and has been a full-time pro for nine years. He’s signed a five-year contract, and he’ll almost certainly slow down before it expires. Unless soccer revenues consider to grow at the same rate, it’ll be ball and chain of a contract for the Toffees.
Not only does Bolasie have to have an exceptional season to justify his fee -- better than he ever has before -- but he has to stay very productive into his 30s too. This move doesn’t make a lot of sense for Everton.
