After a week of strong criticism, Neymar finally showed up in the quarterfinals, recording a goal and an assist in a tough win over Colombia. And on Wednesday, he was at his best, scoring the fastest goal in Olympics history as Brazil coasted to a 6-0 win over Honduras. The hosts will now have a chance to win a gold medal in soccer for the first time in their history.
Brazil vs. Honduras 2016: Final score 6-0, Neymar leads his team to Olympic gold medal match
The best version of Brazil finally showed up.

Neymar’s goal 15 seconds in came as the result of some sloppy play by Honduras. He charged down defender Johnny Palacios and took the ball off him before getting charged down by Luis Lopez. The Honduran goalkeeper got a hand to the ball, but couldn’t stop it from hitting the back of the net. Neymar pulled up injured after the goal, but was able to continue.
Gabriel Jesus effectively ended the game later in the first half. He finished off an assist from Luan in the 26th minute, then another from Neymar in the 35th to put Brazil up 3-0.
Neymar added another assist to put the game well behind doubt early in the second half. Off a corner in the 56th minute, defender Marquinhos bundled the ball over the line for Brazil’s fourth goal. The fifth was scored by Luan, who poked in after a through ball by Neymar to Felipe Anderson, who hit a perfect cross into the box.
Palacios was embarrassed yet again in the 90th minute, when he was caught hacking down Luan in the box and was whistled for a penalty. Neymar stepped up to the spot and scored, completing a fantastic day with two goals and two assists.
Brazil now awaits the winner of Germany vs. Nigeria, while Honduras will face the loser of that game for the bronze medal.
