Canada will try to win a medal in women’s Olympic soccer for the second consecutive time on Friday, while hosts Brazil feel like they need a medal for this tournament to be a success. Both teams were disappointed to fall in the semifinals, but still have a chance to walk away with a solid consolation prize with the bronze medal.
Brazil vs. Canada, Olympic soccer 2016: Time, TV schedule and team news for women’s bronze medal game
Marta and Christine Sinclair are still competing for a medal.

The hosts are coming off a heartbreaking penalty shootout loss against Sweden, who held Marta in check in a 0-0 draw before winning 4-3 on the spot kicks. Canada will feel a little less aggrieved at their semifinal result, and just need a better performance. They had plenty of chances against Germany, but not enough quality in a 3-0 loss.
Kickoff is at 12 p.m. ET. You can catch the game online at NBCOlympics.com.
Key player: Christine Sinclair
Christine Sinclair is one of the greatest players of all time, and this might be her last chance to put in a signature performance at the Olympics. While she did a solid job as a playmaker against Germany, she didn’t get into dangerous shooting positions very often. While she’s become more of a passer than a scorer as she’s aged, Canada will still want to see her getting close to goal against Brazil.
Recent history
These teams have already played three times this year, once in the Algarve Cup and twice in friendlies. Canada won the Algarve Cup final 2-1 with goals by Janine Beckie and Shelina Zadorsky, while the teams split a pair of friendlies in Ontario. Marta scored twice in Brazil’s win, while Beckie had the winning goal in Canada’s friendly victory.
Match date/time: Friday, noon ET
Venue: Corinthians Arena, São Paulo, Brazil
