Canada has repeated as Olympic bronze medalists in women’s soccer, denying Brazil a medal in their home country. Friday’s game was a chance for Canada’s youngest and oldest stars to shine, with Deanne Rose and Christine Sinclair scoring in Canada’s 2-1 victory.

Rose notched the opening goal in the 25th minute, but the real story was the assist. Ashley Lawrence set up the goal with an incredible long run with the ball down the left flank and a perfect square ball across the 6-yard box. By the time the ball got to Rose, all she had to do was tap it in.

Brazil came out strong to start the second half, but conceded another quality goal to the Canadians in the 52nd minute. Jessie Fleming set up the chance with a gorgeous dribbling move and through ball for Rose, who played the ball into the center of the box for Sinclair. Her first touch wasn’t the silkiest of her career, but she recovered well to place a finish past Barbara.

Beatriz got the Brazilians back in the match with a gorgeous 79th minute goal. She took a touch off an Erika header, then in one motion, did a 180-degree turn and finished at the far post from 10 yards. But Brazil couldn’t find a second goal, and Canada held on to win the bronze medal.
