After the first leg of their Champions League playoff tie, nothing could separate AS Roma and FC Porto on the pitch. The scoreline heading into Tuesday's match at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome is even at 1-1, with Roma holding a tenuous away goal advantage as both teams fight for one of the last places in the group stage.
Roma vs. Porto 2016 live stream: Time, TV schedule and how to watch Champions League online
It’s time to see who of Roma or Porto can beat the other with a spot in the Champions League group stage on the line.
Of course, that advantage can disappear in a heartbeat if Porto get rolling. They have a highly-skilled attack that is supported well by their midfield, and any mistakes Roma make will be ruthlessly exploited. They didn’t make many mistakes in Portugal, but with the pressure on, you never know if Roma will respond.
The Italian side certainly has the talent to win, but they lacked the incision to beat a resolute Porto side a week ago. It took an own goal to give them a lead, one they ultimately gave away with a second-half penalty. And while Roma were much improved over the weekend in a 4-0 win over Udinese, it took them getting through a very shaky first half and getting awarded a pair of less-than-certain penalties to get rolling. If they come out slow at all against Porto, they may find themselves staring at a deficit they can’t afford to have in a hurry.
