Celtic fans warned not to display Palestine flags during Champions League match in Israel
Everyone’s hoping this story doesn’t get messier on Tuesday.

Last week, UEFA warned Celtic fans that any political display during their Champions League qualifying match against Israeli team Hapoel Be’er Sheva would result in fines or future closed-door games. Police threatened fans displaying Palestinian flags with arrest. Fans responded with a huge display of Palestinian flags and a banner that read “Free Palestine.”
With a fine from UEFA looming, Celtic fans organized to raise money in the amount matching the inevitable fine to support Palestinian charities. So far, they’ve raised £100,000, much more than UEFA will fine the club.
Quite a few Celtic fans are traveling to the second leg in Israel, and they’ve been warned not to display Palestinian flags. “There will be security measures implemented to prevent those sorts of incidents from taking place,” said Israeli police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld. “It is not illegal to have a Palestinian flag in Israel but provocation by fans of either side is, and we will not tolerate it.”
