New European champions Portugal are looking like they’re a contender to win another title in another age group this summer in Rio. They defeated Honduras 2-1 in their second group stage match at the Olympic men’s soccer tournament, sending them top of Group D with six points.
Portugal vs. Honduras 2016: Final score 2-1, Portuguese remain perfect in men’s Olympic soccer
Portugal has kept themselves on top of Group D in the men’s Olympic soccer tournament.

Alberto Elis stunned Portugal with a goal just 30 seconds into the match, finishing off a cross with an impressive strike from 12 yards. But Portugal fought back quickly, equalizing in the 22nd minute when Tobias Figueiredo headed in a free kick.
The winner came in the 36th minute, and it was an unlucky break for Honduras. A shot by Bruno Fernandes was blocked and took a big deflection, landing directly into the path of Gonçalo Paciência. The Honduras defense was helpless as Paciência finished from close range.
While this loss is a setback for Honduras, they’re still alive in the tournament. They won their opener against Algeria, so they’ll head into the final round of group stage play with three points. However, they’ll be underdogs against Argentina. Portugal finishes up against Algeria, whom they’ll be expected to beat.
