Thursday night saw Paraguay set up for a tough match against Chile in CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying. Even at home, beating the twice-defending Copa America champions, who came in riding a high of momentum, would be a difficult task, requiring Paraguay to get off to a red-hot start. Fortunately, Oscar Romero was up to the task:

That thunderbolt of a strike came just six minutes into the match, a quality shot from well outside the box that had Christopher Toselli utterly fooled in goal. And if you want an idea of what that goal meant to the Paraguay fans in the stadium, just watch this vine with the sound on:

That is a passionate crowd.

Paraguay weren’t done, with Paulo Da Silva meeting an awkwardly bouncing ball to knock it in during a moment of chaos in the box just three minutes later:

Not the prettiest goal you’ll ever see, but the effort and skill involved in adjusting to that ball with a defender in front of him are not inconsiderable — and it counts all the same no matter what.

What a shocking start to this game.
