Real Madrid vs. Sporting Lisbon 2016 live stream: Time, TV schedule and how to watch Champions League online

Real Madrid go head-to-head with Sporting Lisbon in their Champions League opener.

Reigning Champions League winners Real Madrid kick off their title defence at home to Sporting Lisbon on Wednesday. Zinedine Zidane's side have made a strong start to the new season, moving two points clear at the top of La Liga with three wins from their first three matches. However, their opponents in this match have also made a perfect opening, with four wins from four in the Portuguese top flight. They'll be out to shock the favoured hosts.

Real Madrid will have Cristiano Ronaldo -- who started his career in Sporting's academy -- and Karim Benzema both back after knee and hip injuries, though Keylor Navas, Fábio Coentrão and Isco are all sidelined. Sporting, meanwhile, should have a full-strength team available.

It is the first time these sides have met since the first group stage of the Champions League in 2000, when Madrid were once again the tournament’s defending champions. On that occasion Madrid pulled off an excellent 4-0 victory on home soil, with club legends Guti and Fernando Morientes both among the scorers. Sporting were eliminated at the first hurdle; Real Madrid were eliminated by eventual winners Bayern Munich in the semifinals.
