Portugal vs. Switzerland 2016 live stream: Time, TV schedule and how to watch World Cup qualifying online

The Portuguese national team returns to competitive action on Tuesday for the first time since their glorious victory over France in the final of Euro 2016. They open their World Cup qualifying campaign with a tough match against a Swiss side that haven't played a single match since they were dumped out of the same tournament by Poland.

Though Portugal are the favourites heading into the match, Fernando Santos' side will be without their star man Cristiano Ronaldo. The Real Madrid striker is yet to play a game this season, as he continues his recovery from the knee injury that saw him withdrawn agonisingly early in the victory over France. He's not Portugal's only high-profile absentee: midfield starlets André Gomes and Renato Sanches have also been left at home.

They will, however, notably be without attacker Xherdan Shaqiri, who was not named in Vladimir Petković's squad for this round of international fixtures. Though there were some whispers about him defecting to the new Kosovo national football team earlier in the summer, Shaqiri's absence is thought to be because of a minor injury picked up early in the Premier League season. Switzerland are sure to miss his creative spark, especially against a notoriously stubborn Portuguese defence.
