The United States men’s national team got the job done during thelr last match, winning comfortably away to St. Vincent and the Grenadines. That means they’re all but qualified for the Hexagonal round of CONCACAF World Cup qualifying, but they still have one game left in this round, against Trinidad and Tobago.

The USMNT is all but in the Hex, but could really use a statement win. Or a draw, if they want to avoid seeing Mexico early.

It’s been an impressive round for T&T, who are on top of the group after winning their other two road games. They’ll be underdogs in their last away match of the fourth round of CONCACAF qualifying, but they’ve proven they can give the USMNT a serious test.
American fans will be hoping to see Christian Pulisic and Sacha Kljestan get chances after they combined well off the bench in the USMNT’s last game. This game could also see the debut of Caleb Stanko, or rare appearances for young players Rubio Rubin and Paul Arriola.
What’s at stake?
Very little, except pride for winning the group and Hex positioning. While T&T would like to say they got one over on the Americans and the USMNT would like to avoid the indignity of not winning their fourth-round qualifying group, second place might be advantageous. The group winner will kick off their Hex at home against Mexico on Nov. 11.
It is technically possible for the USMNT to miss the hex, though it’s unlikely. Not only would they need to lose while Guatemala wins, but Guatemala would need to make up a 12-goal gap. It’s unlikely that the Soca Warriors hang five or six on the Americans to help them out.
Last meeting
If you watched the last game between the United States and Trinidad and Tobago, we're very sorry. You are a valuable, lovely person, and you didn't deserve that. Not only was it a 0-0 draw, but it was one of the most thoroughly uneventful 0-0 draws in recent memory for the USMNT. There was one combined shot on target taken from inside the box. T&T had a nice little flurry of activity between the 60th and 70th minutes, but when they failed to score from that, both teams settled into taking zero risks and just accepting the point. It was an extremely bad game. We hope this one is better.
