The 2017 NWSL College Draft has wrapped up, with 40 players learning which team they’ll be starting their professional careers with. Attacking midfielder Rose Lavelle of Wisconsin was the first overall pick as expected, and she’ll be asked to become the new face of the Boston Breakers.

Boston had four picks in the first round and went heavy on attackers. After picking up Lavelle, they also added versatile attack-minded midfielder Morgan Andrews, plus athletic forwards Ifenoma Onumonu and Margaret Purce.

FC Kansas City is earning praise for their picks, adding to all parts of their roster while taking players who were projected to go higher than they did. Christina Gibbons fell to them at No. 5 overall, while Toni Payne, Stephanie Ribeiro, Alexis Shaffer and Rashida Beal could all have chances to get minutes as rookies.

Savannah Jordan, a forward from Florida who was a consensus top-five prospect in the draft, fell to the second round due to her desire to play overseas. Portland Thorns traded into the second round to select her, but head coach Mark Parsons confirmed that she will not be with the Thorns when the NWSL season starts in April.
