MLS draft order 2017: The first round picks of the SuperDraft

Here’s how the draft order stands for Thursday’s MLS SuperDraft.

While the MLS SuperDraft may not hold the huge significance it once did for Major League Soccer — the growth and strength of MLS academy teams has helped feed many certain first-round picks directly to the clubs who trained them — Friday’s draft in Los Angeles is still important for MLS teams. It’s an excellent source of talent, especially for those teams without strong academies, and you can bet that every team’s front office will be impatiently waiting for their name to come up in the draft order.

Of course, this draft order isn’t set in stone — three of the top four picks were traded on draft day last year, with seven overall trades impacting first round picks on draft day itself. If you thought that was chaotic, adding a pair of expansion teams in Minnesota United and Atlanta United will only add to the intrigue and potential for big draft-day moves as the two young teams look to add to their fledgling rosters. Six trades have already re-shaped the first round heading into draft day, and it’s bound to get shaken up much more before everything is said and done.
