La Liga leaders Real Madrid head into the weekend a point and a game-in-hand clear of second-placed Sevilla. Zinedine Zidane's side have lost just one of their opening 18 games, and will look to maintain their advantage with a victory at home to high-flying Real Sociedad at the Santiago Bernabéu on Sunday.

La Real have enjoyed their own excellent start to the season, and find themselves level on points with Atlético Madrid heading into the round. They've won four of their last five in the league, and look very much in the hunt for European football. Coach Eusebio Sacristán will hope his side can maintain their charge against all odds on Sunday.

Three big things to know

1. Madrid aren't helped by a string of injury problems. They'll be without several regular first-teamers, including Gareth Bale, Dani Carvajal, Pepe, Luka Modrić and Marcelo. Raphaël Varane and James Rodríguez will have to pass late fitness tests if they're to be involved.

2. Real Sociedad will be without Carlos Martínez, Markel Bergara and Imanol Agirretxe, who are all on the treatment table. Yuri Berchiche is out suspended, while Joseba Zaldúa is doubtful.

3. Real Sociedad haven’t won away at the Bernabéu since 2004, when Xabi Prieto netted a brace in a memorable 4-1 win. The club legend is still playing for La Real today, having made over 400 appearances for his hometown club. He’s likely to start in the centre of midfield in this game.
