With Germany winning the Olympic gold medal in women’s soccer at Rio 2016, the winner of The Best FIFA women’s coach was more or less a foregone conclusion. As expected, Germany boss Silvia Neid won the honor at The Best FIFA Awards.

The gold medalist has captured the award for the third time in her career.

Neid took over as Germany coach in 2005, leading the team to two European championships, a World Cup win, and an Olympic bronze medal before 2016’s big triumph at the 2016 Summer Olympics.
This is the third time that Neid has been named the best coach in women’s soccer by FIFA. She also won the award in 2010 and 2013.
Neid stepped down from her post at the end of 2016 and has been succeeded by Steffi Jones as head coach of the national team. Neid has opted to not seek another coaching job, and is now the technical director and chief scout for the German women’s national team.
United States coach Jill Ellis and Sweden boss Pia Sundhage were the other nominees up for the award.
