FINAL SCORE — T&T 2-1 USMNT

The United States will not make the World Cup. Panama qualifies and Honduras heads to the playoff. You can read a recap of USA vs. Trinidad and Tobago here.

90 + 4’ — Omar Gonzalez heads a corner over the bar.

90’ — Panama is up 2-1 on Costa Rica, meaning the USMNT is in 5th and out entirely as it stands.

88’ — Feilhaber is nearly the hero but Foncette makes an amazing save on his header from six yards.

83’ — Dempsey is in but he has the ball poked away. And Benny Feilhaber is coming into the game as the final American sub, replacing Darlington Nagbe.

77’ — Clint Dempsey hits the post! So close for the USMNT.

Meanwhile, beIN Sports is reporting that Sunil Gulati was a nervous wreck on the sideline, biting his nails, then got up and left because he couldn’t stand to watch.

T&T makes a change, bringing Trevin Caesar for Winchester.

71’ — A change for each team. T&T brings on Joevin Jones for Levi Garcia, while the USMNT subs in Kellyn Acosta for Jorge Villafaña. The USMNT... doesn’t really have a left back now?

69’ — Great save by Foncette to deny Dempsey an equalizer off a shot from the edge of the box.

66’ — The USMNT is now in 4th as it stands, thanks to this comedy goal that put Honduras up 3-2 on Mexico.

59’ — Yedlin probably trips Lewis in the box, no call. T&T denied two borderline penalties.

56’ — The USMNT should probably score again, because they might not get any help after all.

48’ — Good response by T&T. DeAndre Yedlin has to clear a Winchester chance off the line.

47’ — GOAL! T&T 2-1 USMNT. Christian Pulisic pulls one back with a laser. He puts it into the top of the net from 20 yards.

46’ — Clint Dempsey has replaced Paul Arriola. The USMNT formation is now “blob of players.”

HALFTIME — T&T 2-0 USA

No sugar-coating that. The USMNT was horrible and deserves to be down. Here’s how the table looks at the break:

45’ — Tim Howard gets fooled by a knuckling free kick and barely keeps it out. He’s having a bad time.

38’ — The Americans are still in good shape despite their terrible performance thanks to goals by Costa Rica and Mexico. Both Honduras and Panama trail.

37’ — GOAL! T&T 2-0 USMNT. What a rocket by Alvin Jones! He smokes a perfect shot into the top corner from 35 yards that Tim Howard had no chance to stop. The Americans are in big trouble.

35’ — Bad stuff so far from the Americans. Still no chances. And Honduras has equalized against Mexico, so here’s what the situation is at the moment.

27’ — The USMNT has still yet to challenge the goalkeeper. Might Bruce Arena consider a pre-halftime sub?

18’ — Gonzalez hacks down Levi Garcia in the box and the ref doesn’t spot it. Second error in a minute. Should have been a penalty.

17’ — GOAL! T&T 1-0 USA. Omar Gonzalez own goal, and it’s a nightmare start for the Americans. Alvin Jones crosses, Gonzalez tries to clear, but he loops it perfectly over Tim Howard’s hand. Calamitous stuff.

16’ — Not much happening in Trinidad, but the USMNT got some help from Mexico.

7’ — Jozy Altidore has the Americans’ first good chance and shoots just over the bar. Great run and pass by DeAndre Yedlin.

4’ — Shahdon Winchester finds the back of the net but he’s well offside. Still, worrying sign for the US.

1’ — Kickoff! Reminder that T&T has been eliminated and is just trying to play spoiler, while the USMNT is assured of qualification with a draw.

Wondering how many USMNT fans traveled? Not many, but they’ve got a little section.

In previous years, the United States has had World Cup qualification locked up before the final matchday. But this time around, the Americans need a result or some help in the last round of the Hex to qualify for the 2018 World Cup. They’ll need to put together another solid performance away to Trinidad and Tobago on Tuesday.

T&T is eliminated from World Cup contention but would still love to play spoiler. If they beat the USMNT, either Honduras or Panama could sneak ahead of the Americans in the CONCACAF standings. If one wins in that situation, the USMNT goes to an intercontinental playoff, and the Americans go out entirely if both win. The USMNT will qualify for the World Cup with either a draw or a win.

Bruce Arena has opted to make no changes to the team that defeated Panama on Friday, hoping that Christian Pulisic, Jozy Altidore and Bobby Wood can work the same magic in attack.

This is a live blog that will update constantly throughout the match. The newest updates will appear at the top of the page.
