Real Madrid are coming off a disappointing midweek result in the Champions League, but they need to move past that quickly if they’re going to get back to their winning ways in La Liga, with crucial positioning at the top end of the table at hand as they prepare to face Eibar on Sunday.

This was been a wildly inconsistent season for Real Madrid in La Liga so far, winning just one of their matches at home in the Santiago Bernabeu, leading to them sitting five points adrift of first-place arch rivals Barcelona entering the weekend. With Barcelona beating Malaga on Saturday, Madrid need a win to keep pace, especially with local rivals Atletico nipping at their heels in the standings and facing a tricky road match.

Both sides are dealing with several key injuries, with Gareth Bale, Keylor Navas, Dani Carvajal, and Mateo Kovacic all out for Real Madrid, and Fran Rico, Ivi, Pedro Leon, and Yoel all missing for Eibar. It will be interesting to see what happens with Navas’ absence for Real Madrid, as his backup Kiko Casilla is better thought of than the Costa Rica international in some circles of the Madrid fanbase, and has been solid when called on early this season.
