Things are heating up in Serie A, with the two expected front runners in Italy going head to head on Saturday while not exactly finding themselves in the position in the table that they were expecting, with a struggling AC Milan side hosting a Juventus team who just haven’t quite clicked yet this season.

AC Milan are struggling, and Juventus are hoping to use them to climb back atop Serie A.

Milan had a huge summer in terms of signings, but those signings just haven’t gelled yet, leaving them struggling for any kind of consistency. Many of the new players have drawn frequent criticism, and Vincenzo Montella has been under storm for weeks as fans and media alike have accused him of not having anything like what it takes to manage this high-powered group. They just broke a four-match winless streak at midweek against Chievo Verona, but couldn’t score a goal in three of the four matches of that scuffling run, which isn’t exactly filling their fans with confidence against the Old Lady.
For their part, Juventus have run off three wins in a row, but still find themselves wallowing in third place, struggling to keep up with the blistering pace being set by Napoli this season. They’ve won three straight in all competitions, but they’ve never really looked like they’ve been clicking on all cylinders at any points this season, even during their current run. A win at the San Siro over Milan could be what they need to get things moving in the right direction — and who knows, if both Napoli and Inter Milan manage to lose later in the weekend, Juventus could even find themselves sitting back atop Serie A.
Juventus have a trio of injuries to deal with, but their fans aren’t overly concerned about any of them — Mehdi Benatia was poor in his three appearances in Juventus’ defense this season, and neither Benedikt Howedes nor Marko Pjaca have played a minute so far this year. Milan have more to worry about, though — ex-Juventus defender and new rossonero captain Leonardo Bonucci is suspended, while key playmaker Giacomo Bonaventura is hurt. Davide Calabria and Andrea Conti are missing from Milan’s bench as well, making Montella’s tactical planning that much more difficult.
