There’s a surprising amount at stake in this match between league-leading Bayern Munich and fourth-place Borussia Mönchengladbach in this match, leading this weekend’s highlight match of the Bundesliga to be an absolute must-watch.

Bayern are well ahead in the Bundesliga race right now, but they want to protect their six-point lead over Schalke and RB Leipzig in the standings, if not extend it with a little bit of luck in their matches. They’ve been on a roll since overcoming their rough start to the season, winning nine straight matches in all competitions since Jupp Heynckes took over as interim manager.

But Gladbach have plenty to play for as well, sitting just two points behind Schalke and Leipzig. A win here wouldn’t just see them knock down the top team in Germany and give them the matching boost of confidence, it could see them move up into second place and to within striking distance of Bayern. That’s not a bad place to be, and they’re going to work as hard as they can to get there.

Bayern Munich will be utilizing some rotation because of injuries and fatigue in the squad, with James Rodriguez and Corentin Tolisso getting starts, and Kinglsey Coman likely returning to the lineup after his return from injury, They’re all playing because Manuel Neuer, Arjen Robben, Franck Ribery, Thiago Alcantara, and Thomas Muller are all hurt, leaving Bayern a bit thin all over the pitch. Borussia Mönchengladbach have a few injuries of their own to deal with, with Jonas Hoffman, Ibrahima Traore, and Raul Bobadilla all expected to miss out.
