After spending the most recent international break playing lower-level opposition, both the United States and Canada will be happy to test themselves against each other in two games during the last FIFA date of 2017. The USWNT is currently ranked No. 1 by FIFA, while Canada is ranked No. 5.

There are four regulars who are unavailable for the USWNT. Mallory Pugh, Tobin Heath and Morgan Brian are all out with injuries, while Crystal Dunn has been allowed to remain with Chelsea. Canada will give some chances to relatively inexperienced players as well, due to the absences of Kadeisha Buchanan, Sophie Schmidt, and Diana Matheson.
Canada and the USWNT last met in 2016 in the final of the Olympic qualifying tournament, after both teams had already secured their places in Rio. The Americans won that match 2-0, with Heath and Lindsey Horan scoring the goals.
