Manchester City are threatening to run away from the rest of the Premier League, with a huge lead atop the table coming into the halfway mark of the season. But one of the teams that was supposed to be slugging it out with them has a chance to at least slow them down, with Tottenham Hotspur heading for the Etihad Stadium with nothing but a win on their minds.

Injury spells and some troubles with tactics left Tottenham with a slow start to the season, but Spurs have seen their form coming around of late. They easily won a Champions League group including Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund, and they’ve won three matches in a row in all competitions, as well as six of their last ten matches. If anyone has the quality and form to beat Manchester City, it’s Tottenham and their high-octane, tough-as-steel style.

But Manchester City have yet to be beaten in the Premier League this season, and have dropped just two points all campaign long. They do have a single loss on their record in all competitions — a group stage Champions League match that was utterly meaningless to them — and they’ve absolutely rolled over all comers otherwise. Pep Guardiola has put together a terrifyingly effective squad, and even with three starting defenders out with injury, they might just have too much firepower for Tottenham to resist.
