The other Africa Cup of Nations semifinal between Ghana and Cameroon might have a bit more firepower, but Wednesday’s match features the two better performing sides in the tournament. Burkina Faso and Egypt are both undefeated group winners, they both recorded shutout wins in their quarterfinal games, and either one would be a worthy finalist.

The tournament’s most consistent sides meet in the semifinal.

Burkina Faso got through a tough group with hosts Gabon and fellow semifinalists Cameroon before comfortably dispatching of Tunisia. Egypt have been even more impressive, recording victories over Ghana and Morocco, two very good teams.
Neither team is centered around one star, though Egypt’s most famous player Mohamed Salah is having a very solid tournament. It’s also been a bit of a coming out party for Kahraba, a 22-year-old attacker who might find his way to a big European league next summer after his solid performances.
Préjuce Nakoulma is Burkina Faso’s leading scorer with two goals, but he’s hardly their only star. The core of the defense and midfield that made the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations final is still in place for Les Étalons.
