PSG vs. Barcelona 2017: Start time, TV schedule, and news for Champions League

PSG host Barcelona as the Champions League returns on Tuesday.

Two Champions League titans face off in the opening leg of the first knockout round on Tuesday, with Paris Saint-Germain playing host to Barcelona. Both of these sides would have been hoping to make deep runs in this competition, though only one will make it into the final eight.

Barcelona are the better side, though PSG certainly won’t make life easy. Unai Emery’s side had a disappointing start to the season, though it has only failed to win one game this side of Christmas. For their part, Barça haven’t been beaten since their first game of the calendar year, and seem to be finding form at just the right time.

Three big things to know

1. PSG will be without defensive midfielder Thiago Motta, who is serving a one-match ban. However, German playmaker Julian Draxler is set for his European debut for the Parisian outfit, having joined from Wolfsburg in January. He’s already netted four goals for Emery’s side.

2. Barça were dealt a serious blow in their demolition of Alavés on Saturday, when first-choice full-back Aleix Vidal suffered a dislocated ankle. He's expected to miss the remainder of the campaign. The versatile Sergi Roberto is expected to fill in on the right side of defense. Javier Mascherano is also on the treatment table with a hamstring problem, while Rafinha is in doubt with a broken nose.

3. These sides have been drawn against each other three times in the last four years. Barça have won four of their six meetings, with PSG’s only win coming at the Parc des Princes in the 2014 group stages. The other game was a 2-2 draw in Paris in the 2013 quarterfinals in which Barça progressed on away goals.
