Barcelona need to keep chasing Real Madrid or risk them getting away.

Barcelona have seen the gap with Real Madrid start to slowly close, but instead of getting confident and assured, Lionel Messi and company need to keep up the pace, because any slip ups could let their arch-rivals slip away. That means they need to win every match for the foreseeable future, starting with Wednesday’s match against Sporting Gijón.

Fortunately for Barcelona, Gijón have been in dreadful form, sitting in La Liga’s relegation zone and winning just one match in their last five, with three losses in that same span. With a typical performance, Barcelona should easily be able to beat them with authority — but we’ve seen them slip up in matches like this more than once this season, and any dropped points would give Madrid the opening they need to start pulling away, especially as they still hold a game in hand.
