El Tri need a win to feel comfortable in their standing in CONCACAF qualifying.

During the last qualifying cycle, El Tri’s once great fortress was no longer impenetrable. They barely snuck into fourth place in the hex after drawing three games 0-0 at home while losing another to Honduras. But Mexico has been a bit more impressive since then and is currently undefeated in this World Cup qualifying cycle. They’ll expect to win on Friday night.
Mexico is missing one of their most important players due to injury. Andrés Guardado was announced in the initial squad, but picked up an injury that will keep him out of this game. Costa Rica has all their stars, so Mexico will have their hands full with the likes of Joel Campbell, Christian Bolaños and Celso Borges.
