Borussia Dortmund will look to continue their recent run of good form when they travel to Gelsenkirchen to play Schalke 04 on Saturday. Thomas Tuchel’s side have won six of their last seven matches in all competitions, and would move up to second in the Bundesliga if they win the game in hand they hold on Leipzig and Hoffenheim.

Schalke welcome Borussia Dortmund to Gelsenkirchen on Saturday.

However, back-to-back Bundesliga victories have suggested Schalke could prove something of a challenge at the Veltins-Arena, even if it has been largely an unimpressive domestic campaign from Markus Weinzierl’s men. They head into the round exactly in mid-table, four points adrift of Köln and the final European spot, and 13 behind Borussia Dortmund and the top four.
These sides have drawn on each of the last two occasions they’ve met. Not since 2013 have Dortmund managed to win away in Gelsenkirchen, with Jürgen Klopp in charge when they last managed a 3-1 victory at the Veltins-Arena.
For this edition of the fixture, Schalke will be without Breel Embolo, Abdul Rahman, Naldo, Dennis Aogo, and Atsuto Uchida; Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting faces a late fitness test. As for Borussia Dortmund, Sebastian Rode, Mario Götze, Marco Reus, Erik Durm, and André Schürrle are all currently sidelined. Suffice to say, neither coach has been particularly fortunate with their recent injury problems.
